Handling Hyper-Active Child
Yes it can be a challenge for many mums and dads especially we find our children cannot sit still and focus and. You do worry that if they are hyper-active, how they are going to focus their studies and do their school work.
In order for parents not to end up feeling frustrated and impatient, one is to accept that children cannot sit still as it is in their hyper-active nature. When we try to get a young active child to sit still for a long time say an hour, that is challenging for the child to even focus on his school work.
What we can do is to allow your hyper-active child to have short break in between, it can be doodling, some fun exercises. When child is active and cannot sit still, they could be kinestatic learner. However understanding all these, the active child need to be preframed. So it is like “ok mum we are going to do this, and then we are going to take a short 5 mins break.” And this helps children who are hyper-active to be able to focus in their studies.
And if children are fidgeting and very active as some parents expect their children to sit still and do their school work. For example, my son used to do his school work on the floor. It is ok as long as they get their school work done. To expect a young child to focus by sitting still at the table for so long is a big challenge. If you are going to put the child who is hyper-active to the level of sitting still for an hour for his studies, we need to be more patient and understanding in order to help the active child.

I believe in a child-centered, whole language approach to children’s development.
To create an atmosphere and framework where each child can open up and express themselves, confident that their every contribution will be acknowledged, appreciated and valued.
